The entire assembly was maintained at 5°F. 32°F water was then poured onto the unit to represent roof gutter overflow. High pressure water was then sprayed around unit to simulate freezing rain.

The vent skirt also shields the meter index, making the index easier to read while greatly minimizing incidents of frozen meter indexes, which can allow unmetered gas through to the customer.
